Dr Mitchell Steele received his Fellowship with Royal Australian College of Surgeons and was Admitted Fellow to The Australian Orthopaedic Association following Successful completion of the AOA Orthopaedic training program, Southside Sydney, in January 2019.
During training rotations through Sydney, Wollongong and Canberra Mitchell has worked with and been mentored by some of Australia’s best Orthopaedic Surgeons, covering all disciplines of Orthopaedic Surgery. Mitchell was selected to complete a paediatric orthopaedic fellowship during training at Shriners Hospital for Children, Portland, Oregon US.
Dr Mitchell Steele is a keen teacher, regularly teaching medical students and junior staff in formal in informal settings. He has published and presented research at national orthopaedic meetings and is completing a Research Fellowship with Sydney Knee Specialists group looking at morphological variations in knee alignment, total knee replacement balancing and alignment.
After graduating from Caringbah Selective High School Mitchell was awarded the University of Sydney Undergraduate Scholarship from the College of Science and Technology to pursue a degree in Mechanical/Biomedical Engineering at Sydney University. This was completed with 1st Class Honours and during this a Japanese Government Scholarship allowed 6 months of Biomedical Engineering studies at Tohoku University, Japan where his research was presented in Japanese.
Mitchell’s mechanically minded intelligence first lead him to Engineering, where a caring nature and passion for medicine then led him to complete a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at Sydney University, again graduating with Honours. The appeal of a career in Orthopaedics was a natural progression that utilises Dr Steele’s aptitude, skills and passion to provide high quality orthopaedic care.
Dr Steele holds public hospital appointments at Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital in Nowra as well as Wollongong and Shellharbour Hospitals. In addition to this, private hospital appointments include Nowra, Wollongong and St George Private Hospitals.
Dr Mitchell Steele is an approachable, caring and dedicated surgeon aiming to deliver his patients and the community the best possible outcomes. Outside of work Mitchell spends his time with his young family, likes to stay active and enjoys the outdoors.
